Spiritual Undertones in The Awakening

It’s no secret that T. Damon is interested in all things magical and mystical. But she harbors a particular interest in hermeticism, which can be detected in her more recent books, namely, The Awakening. Of course, one would not be inclined to make the connection if one were not already well-versed in the topic of hermeticism to begin with. So what is hermeticism? Basically, it’s a belief system that revolves around three main aspects: astrology, alchemy, and theurgy. Theurgy, meaning daily ritual work of ceremonial magic; alchemy as in the transformation of something into something else (like lead into gold, but that’s just one example. A person can undergo an alchemical transformation, as can an idea, a belief, etc.); and astrology is of course the study of the planetary influences on locations of fixed stars, aka celestial bodies influencing human affairs and the natural world.

If one were to believe that one had experienced countless numbers of lifetimes prior to entering the one now, then it’s likely that person has experienced synchronicities throughout their life. It’s believed that a hermeticist’s work is never truly done, therefore if one were to have an interest in the topic this life, then it’s very possible that the person had studied this topic before, if not numerous times over numerous lifetimes. In the Forest Spirit series, a similar theme resounds when the main characters are faced with mortal choices that result in them leaving the physical world but being given options for how to continue their “great work” even after death. There are many lessons for each individual soul to learn, and if one does not complete them in this lifetime, it will be carried over to the next. Or, there could even be other options to finish the lessons within a spiritual plane. Not all hermeticists necessarily believe this, but the author of the Forest Spirit series is fascinated enough by this idea to include it in the books.

Whatever you believe reigns true to you in the lifetime you’re in, and is wholly relevant to providing the path of lessons your soul is destined to learn this time around, or maybe carried over from another place and time. We will not know until the hour of death, and even then what you believe could very well determine the method at which one crosses over and where one ultimately could end up. It is the opinion of the author to release all fear, for in doing so, one’s soul can truly be free to see what the possibilities are. One could find that they are truly endless.
